Natural Ways to Support Your Dog Against Parasites
Certain foods, when used in moderation, can help support your dog’s defences against parasites and may also help reduce the chance of new infestations.
The supportive properties of turmeric
This versatile spice is valued by many for its beneficial properties, both for people and for our four-legged friends. It contains compounds that are often used to support digestive comfort and intestinal wellness. It is also considered to have anti-inflammatory properties. Whenever possible, choose good-quality turmeric from organic sources.
Suggested serving: From 1/8 to ¼ teaspoon per day for every 4.5 kg (10 lbs) of your dog’s body weight. Mix it very well into your dog’s food.
Papaya: a fruit that can benefit your dog
Offering your dog fresh papaya, finely chopped or in powder form, is a way some guardians use to support their dog’s immune system. The enzymes in this fruit are thought to support digestion and to help create an environment that is less favorable to intestinal worms.
Suggested serving: From 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon, depending on your dog’s size.
Kefir and its many benefits for your dog’s wellbeing
Another ally that many people use for their dog’s wellbeing is kefir. It is fermented milk; goat’s milk kefir is often preferred. Many people believe it can support overall health and some studies suggest it may help support a healthy gut. It is also often used for its potential antiparasitic and immune-supporting properties.
Suggested serving: Add about 1.5 teaspoons daily to food for small dogs; about 1.5 tablespoons for medium-sized dogs; and about 2.5 tablespoons for large dogs.
